AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Jurnal Teknologi Kimia Unimal, an national journal, provides a forum for publishing the novel technologies related to a Chemical Processes, Chemical Reaction Technology, Mass and Heat Transfer, Modeling, Environment, Bioprocess Technology and Review Articles.

All papers submitted to this journal must be written in good Indonesian or English. Authors for whom English is not their native language are encouraged to have their paper be checked before submission for grammar and clarity in a professional English editing services. Authors are recommended to use the following professional English Editing Services.

Please be noted that the submitted work should not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. 

1. General Author Guidelines 

All manuscripts must be submitted to JTKU Editorial Office using Online Submission Service at the following URL address: https://ojs.unimal.ac.id/jtk/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions , where Author should register first as Author role. If authors have any problems with the online submission, please contact Editorial Office at the following email: jurnal.tkim@unimal.ac.id id to ask supporting helps.

The following documents should accompany the manuscripts submitted by online through online submission interface (please upload as Supplementary Files section):

  • Signed Copyright Transfer Agreement for Publishing (CTAP) form originally (scan the document after signed or signed electronically) [Download the CTAP form here 2022]
  • Covering Letter which outlines clearly the basic novel findings of the paper and its significance.
  • Graphical Abstract as guided in this Author Guideline.

Three types of manuscripts are acceptable for publication: Original Research Articles, Short Communication (only for short novel findings article), Review Articles (only selected authors after contact to Editors), and Letter to Editor.

2. Cover Letter and Justification of Publication

A cover letter is required confirming that all authors listed agree to the content and publication of the submitted manuscript and that the manuscript is original and not being considered for publication by another journal. 

A separate paragraph within the Cover Letter, consisting of one to two paragraphs, that justifies publication in the journal is also required. The justification should explain what new discovery, interpretation, understanding, concepts, or catalytic system is advanced in the manuscript, and how the content fits within the scope of the journal. Note that it is essential to describe how the content of the new submission differ significantly from existing literature information and its relevance to catalysis. This section plays an important role in editor's decision of whether or not the manuscript will be sent out to for peer review.

3. Manuscript Template

The manuscript should be prepared according to the following author guidelines in the MS Word (doc, docx, pdf) article template format which can be downloaded here: JTKU MS Word Template 2022 (.docx)

4. Reviewing Process of Manuscripts

Every submitted paper is independently reviewed by at least two peer-reviewers. Authors may suggest up to three peer-reviewers when submitted the manuscript.  The decision for publication, amendment, or rejection as well as assigning peer-reviewers are based upon their reports/recommendations and made solely by Editor.

However, if Editor(s) or Reviewers consider a manuscript unsuitable for publication in this journal, a statement explaining the basis for the decision will be sent to the authors after the submission date after the preevaluation step.

5. Revision of Manuscripts

Manuscripts sent back to the authors after revision should be returned to the Editorial Office without delay according to given deadline date.

The revised manuscript document files should be uploaded to the Online Submission Interface (https://ojs.unimal.ac.id/jtk/index) in the "Upload Author Version" from Review task window in Author window. 

The revised document files should include three files:

  • One (1) file of "Revision Notes / Response to Reviewers Comments file in a table form" with respect to Reviewers comments including the location of the revision on the revised manuscript.   • One (1) file of "Revised Manuscript file" according to The Template-based format (MS Word file) (please indicate blue-color texts in the highlighted revised sentences). 
  • One (1) file of "Graphical Abstract file" according to Guideline of Graphical Abstract in Section 5 (Graphicl Abstract).

6. Graphical Abstract 

A Graphical Abstract of each article is mandatory for this journal. This graphic should capture the reader’s attention and, in conjunction with the manuscript title, should give the reader a quick visual impression of the essence of the manuscript without providing specific results.

Graphical abstracts should be submitted as a separate file in the online submission system (as Supplementary Data File) or otherwise, can be submitted by email to jurnal.tkim@unimal.ac.id after the manuscript has been accepted. Please state the manuscript number in your email subject.

Choosing/Creating a Graphical Abstract:

  • The graphic should be simple, but informative.
  • The use of color is encouraged.
  • The graphic should uphold the standards of a scholarly, professional publication.
  • The graphic must be entirely original, unpublished artwork created by one of the coauthors.
  • The graphic should not include a photograph, drawing, or caricature of any person, living or deceased.
  • Do not include postage stamps or currency from any country, or trademarked items (company logos, images, and products).
  • Avoid choosing a graphic that already appears within the text of the manuscript.

Image size: please provide an image with a size of 500 × 800 pixels (height × width).

Preferred file types: TIFF, JPG, PNG, PDF, or MS Office files.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The Editor of the Jurnal Teknologi Kimia Unimal accepts scientific manuscripts in fields related to chemical processes, chemical reaction engineering, mass and heat transfer, modeling, environment, bioprocess technology, and article reviews.

  2. Scientific manuscripts do not contain elements of plagiarism. Manuscripts must also meet manuscript writing guidelines and have or not been in the process of publication in other media, both print and electronic.

  3. The Editorial Board has full authority in selecting incoming manuscripts. The incoming scientific manuscripts will be selected in writing and objectively.

  4. Scientific manuscripts are written in Indonesian or English with the font Time New Roman 12, and the spacing is exactly 1.5. The paper size used is A4 with one column format. The length of scientific manuscripts is equivalent to 5-10 pages, including pictures, graphs, or tables.

     

  5. A statement of copyright transfer must have accompanied articles to be published in the journal.
  6. All submitted manuscripts must follow the manuscript template format found at the end of this guide.

 

Copyright Notice

Journal Author(s) Rights

In order for JTKU to publish and disseminate research articles, we need non-exclusive publishing rights (transfered from author(s) to publisher). This is determined by a publishing agreement between the Author(s) and JTKU. This agreement deals with the transfer or license of the copyright of publishing to JTKU, while Authors still retain significant rights to use and share their own published articles. JTKU supports the need for authors to share, disseminate and maximize the impact of their research and these rights, in any databases.

As a journal Author, you have rights for a large range of uses of your article, including use by your employing institute or company. These Author rights can be exercised without the need to obtain specific permission. Authors publishing in JTKU journals have wide rights to use their works for teaching and scholarly purposes without needing to seek permission, including:

  • use for classroom teaching by Author or Author's institution and presentation at a meeting or conference and distributing copies to attendees; 
  • use for internal training by author's company; 
  • distribution to colleagues for their reseearch use; 
  • use in a subsequent compilation of the author's works; 
  • inclusion in a thesis or dissertation; 
  • reuse of portions or extracts from the article in other works (with full acknowledgement of final article); 
  • preparation of derivative works (other than commercial purposes) (with full acknowledgement of final article); 
  • voluntary posting on open web sites operated by author or author’s institution for scholarly purposes, 

(but it should follow the open access license of Creative Common CC-by-SA License).

Authors/Readers/Third Parties can copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, as well as remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially, but they must give appropriate credit (the name of the creator and attribution parties (authors detail information), a copyright notice, an open access license notice, a disclaimer notice, and a link to the material), provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made (Publisher indicates the modification of the material (if any) and retain an indication of previous modifications using a CrossMark Policy and information about Erratum-Corrigendum notification).

Authors/Readers/Third Parties can read, print and download, redistribute or republish the article (e.g. display in a repository), translate the article, download for text and data mining purposes, reuse portions or extracts from the article in other works, sell or re-use for commercial purposes, remix, transform, or build upon the material, they must distribute their contributions under the same license as the original Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA).

Copyright Transfer Agreement for Publishing (Publishing Right)

The Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that if accepted for publication, non-exclusive right for publishing (publishing right) of the article shall be assigned/transferred to Publisher of Jurnal Teknologi Kimia Unimal journal and Department of Chemical Engineering Universitas Malikussaleh.

Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to complete a 'Copyright Transfer Agreement for Publishing (CTAP)'. An e-mail will be sent to the Corresponding Author confirming receipt of the manuscript together with a 'Copyright Transfer Agreement for Publishing' form by online version of this agreement.

Jurnal Teknologi Kimia and Department of Chemical Engineering Universitas Malikussaleh, the Editors and the Advisory International Editorial Board make every effort to ensure that no wrong or misleading data, opinions or statements be published in the journal. In any way, the contents of the articles and advertisements published in the Jurnal Teknologi Kimia Unimal are sole and exclusive responsibility of their respective authors and advertisers.

Remember, even though we ask for a transfer of copyright for publishing (CTAP), our journal Author(s) retain (or are granted back) significant scholarly rights as mentioned before.
