PENYERAPAN β-KAROTEN MENGGUNAKAN KARBON AKTIF TEMPURUNG KELAPA SAWIT: KAJIAN KINETIKA

Abstract


Telah diteliti kinetika adsorpsi β-karoten pada karbon aktif tempurung kelapa sawit (KATKS). Penelitian ini mempelajari tentang mekanisme adsorpsi dan pengaruh konsentrasi awal β-karoten terhadap kemampuan penyerapan dari KATKS. Upaya pengujian tingkat penyimpangan data eksperimen dengan data teoritis maka korelasinya dianalisis dengan menggunakan regresi nonlinier. Untuk mengetahui mekanisme adsorpsi kinetik diuji dengan menggunakan tiga model persamaan laju adsorpsi yaitu (1) persamaan laju pseudo-order-pertama, (2) persamaan laju pseudo-order-kedua dan (3) persamaan Elovich. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa model kinetika dengan persamaan Elovich adalah yang paling sesuai diaplikasikan untuk adsorpsi β-karoten dari larutan Isopropil alcohol (IPA). Karena model Elovich mampu menginterpretasikan proses adsorpsi β-karoten dengan baik, maka sistem adsorpsi β-karoten ke KATKS dari penelitian ini adalah heterogen. Dari kinetika model Elovich diperoleh konstanta adsorpsi β-karoten sebesar a = 0.6311 mg/g min  dan b = 0.2419 g/mg
