Optimasi Proses Crosslinking Hidrogel berbasis PVA dan Gelatin sebagai Biomaterial Ramah Lingkungan

Penelitian ini mencari kondisi optimum crosslinking hidrogel dari PVA dan gelatin dengan penambahan asam sitrat sebagai chemical crosslinking dan proses freeze-thaw sebagai physical crosslinking. PVA dan gelatin dapat berikatan silang membentuk struktur 3 dimensi yang mampu mengikat air. Hidrogel PVA-Gelatin merupakan hidrogel hybrid yang ramah lingkungan karena sifatnya yang mudah terurari. Untuk meningkatkan sifat mekanik dari hidrogel PVA-Gelatin diperlukan mekanisme crosslinking yang optimum. Kondisi optimum terjadi pada komposisi PVA 10% dan gelatin 10% dengan penambahan asam sitrat dan freeze-thaw tiga siklus menghasilkan hidrogel yang secara visual lentur, tidak mudah sobek dan memiliki swelling ratio 9,47-14,65. Analisis FT-IR menunjukkan terbentuknya ikatan silang antara gugus hidroksil PVA-Gelatin dan gugus karboksilat asam sitrat, yang mengonfirmasi keberhasilan proses crosslinking.
