PENINGKATAN PEMAHAMAN TENTANG HAK NORMATIF PEKERJA MIGRAN PEREMPUAN DI NEGARA PENEMPATAN MALAYSIA (Increased Understanding of Normative Rights Women Migrant Workers)
Abstract
The purpose of this community engagement initiative is to provide information that the Indonesian government has indeed provided protection to Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) through the enactment of Law Number 18 of 2017, albeit not always in line with the regulations of the host countries. Additionally, it aims to educate on the importance of enhancing understanding of the normative rights of PMIs, including reproductive rights that must be advocated for by female migrant workers. The method employed involves lectures and interviews with PMIs under the supervision of the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur, spanning approximately three months in 2023. The results revealed that 5 out of 25 PMIs interviewed stated that they were accommodated at the KBRI due to unresolved legal issues, lack of housing, loss or theft of identity documents, financial constraints, and so forth. On the other hand, PMIs retain normative workers' rights and reproductive rights that need to be advocated for. Facilitators of community engagement with academic backgrounds played a crucial role in finding constructive solutions. This interdisciplinary community engagement program presents an opportunity to assist PMIs and KBRI in facilitating the official repatriation of PMIs to their home country in accordance with applicable procedures and laws.
