Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and optimism in Malikussaleh University students whostudy while working. The phenomenon of dual roles as students and workers has the potential to affect psychological conditions such as self-esteem and optimism. The study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. A sample of 96 students was selected through snowball sampling techniques. The results of the Pearson correlation test showed a positive and significant relationship between self-esteem and optimism (r = 0.519; p = 0.000). This means that the higher the self-esteem, the higher the student's optimism. As many as 41.7% of respondents had high self-esteem, 40.6% low, and 17.7%moderate. Meanwhile, 43.8% had high optimism, 35.4% moderate, and 20.8% low. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening self-esteem to increase optimism in students who have dual roles.
