Abstract

This study aims to examine the differences in marital satisfaction between couples with children and couples without children in North Aceh. The research method used is quantitative with a comparative design. The sampling technique used accidental sampling with a total of three hundred and eighty-four respondents consisting of one hundred and ninety-two respondents with children and one hundred and ninety-two respondents without children. The measuring instrument used was a marital satisfaction scale questionnaire modified based on the marital satisfaction aspects of Fower & Olson (1993) with a scale reliability of 0.930. The results of the study obtained the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected (sig. ˃.370) indicating that Ho was accepted, meaning there was no difference in marital satisfaction between couples with children and couples without children in North Aceh. This shows that the status of having children is not the only factor that shapes satisfaction in marital relationships, especially in Acehnese society which is known to have an understanding of Islamic law so that it tends to accept things that are considered God's provisions, including in responding to the presence or absence of children in the household.
