Open Access Policy
The Journal of Marine Studies (JoMS) is a peer-reviewed, fully open-access journal dedicated to advancing and disseminating scholarly research in marine science and related disciplines. JoMS is committed to ensuring that all published content is freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication, without any subscription fees, registration barriers, or access delays.
1. Free and Immediate Access
All articles published in JoMS are accessible to readers worldwide from the moment of publication. The journal does not impose subscription charges, embargo periods, or paywalls. This open-access model promotes the unrestricted circulation of scientific knowledge and supports researchers, educators, policymakers, and the public in engaging with the latest developments in marine research.
2. User Rights and Permitted Reuse
In accordance with the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), users are granted extensive rights to access and reuse the published content. Specifically, users may:
- Read, download, and print the full text of articles;
- Copy, share, and redistribute content in any medium or format;
- Link directly to the full texts of published articles from external platforms or websites;
- Adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial use.
These rights are granted without the need for prior permission from the publisher or authors, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original work, a link to the license is included, and any modifications are clearly indicated.
3. Licensing
All content published in JoMS is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), unless otherwise specified. This license permits:
- Sharing: The right to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format;
- Adaptation: The right to remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose.
Under this license, users must provide appropriate attribution to the original authors and source, include a link to the license, and indicate if any changes were made.
4. Copyright
Authors retain full copyright of their works published in JoMS. Upon publication, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive right to publish, distribute, and archive the final Version of Record. This ensures that authors maintain ownership of their intellectual property while enabling broad dissemination and accessibility through the journal’s open-access platform.
5. Archiving and Long-Term Accessibility
To guarantee the long-term preservation and accessibility of all published materials, JoMS utilizes trusted digital archiving services and institutional repositories. This ensures that all content remains accessible and citable in perpetuity, even in the event of system changes or technological advancements.
6. Compliance with Funding and Institutional Requirements
JoMS adheres to open-access mandates established by major funding agencies, research institutions, and government bodies. Authors are free to deposit the final published version (Version of Record) of their articles in any institutional or subject-specific repository, in full compliance with their funders’ open-access policies.
7. No Embargo Policy
JoMS enforces a strict no embargo policy. All articles are made publicly available on the journal’s website immediately upon publication, ensuring immediate and unrestricted access to research outputs.
